Custom Polycarbonate Sheet Cut to Size

Polycarbonate is the material you choose when glass is too fragile, too heavy, or too dangerous. At roughly 250 times the impact resistance of glass and half the weight, it handles applications where breakage is not an option — machine guards, greenhouse panels, skylights, safety barriers, and children's environments.

Why choose polycarbonate over glass?

  • Impact resistant — virtually unbreakable under normal use
  • Lightweight — about half the weight of glass at the same thickness
  • UV-stable — treated to resist yellowing from sunlight
  • Cuts cleanly — safe to handle, no sharp shards if broken
  • Available in clear and a range of thicknesses

Common applications

  • Machine guards and safety shields
  • Greenhouse and cold frame glazing
  • Skylights and roof panels
  • Pet enclosures and terrariums
  • Children's furniture and play areas
  • Security windows and barriers
  • Display cases requiring shatterproof glazing

Frequently asked questions

Is polycarbonate the same as plexiglass (acrylic)?
No. Both are clear plastics but polycarbonate is significantly tougher and more impact-resistant. Acrylic is more rigid and scratch-resistant but will crack or shatter under hard impact. Polycarbonate flexes before it breaks. For safety-critical applications, polycarbonate is the better choice.

Will polycarbonate yellow over time?
Our polycarbonate sheets include a UV-protective coating that resists yellowing from sun exposure. For prolonged outdoor use, this coating extends the service life significantly compared to uncoated sheet.

Can polycarbonate be used outdoors?
Yes — it is commonly used in greenhouses, skylights, and exterior panels. UV-coated polycarbonate handles outdoor exposure well. For very long-term outdoor installations, contact us about the specific grade available.

Which material should I pick?

Full comparison on our Materials Guide.

We do not cut tempered glass. Need something else? Email cancutglass@gmail.com.

We CNC cut (laser, waterjet, and more) to ±0.015″. Glass and polycarbonate go up to 18″ × 12″ (borosilicate up to 12″ × 12″); acrylic goes up to 32.5″ × 32.5″. Ships in 1 week.

How to measure

  1. Measure the finished cut size you need — not the rough stock.
  2. Rectangles: length × width. Circles: diameter across the widest point.
  3. Pick thickness in the quoter.
  4. Use inches.
  5. Fully custom shape? Use the glass builder or upload a DXF there.
